WORKSHOP #2 - Stalking Risk Assessment Using Version 2 of the Guidelines for Stalking Assessment and Management (SAM-V2)
Presented by Dr. P. Randall Kropp, Ph.D., RPsych
Dr. Kropp is a clinical-forensic psychologist at the British Columbia Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission, where his work focuses on the assessment and management of violent and mentally disordered offenders. Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Simon Fraser University; and a Threat Assessment Specialist at Protect International Risk and Safety Services Inc. He has written widely on topics including intimate partner violence, stalking, sexual violence, and honour-based violence.
Stalking is a complex phenomenon: it may involve anything from reputational harassment to intimidation to serious physical or sexual harm; it may be committed by one or more perpetrators against one or more victims; and it may have multiple motivations. The SAM-V2 is a set of structured professional judgment (SP) guidelines for assessing and managing the risk of stalking. The SAM-V2 helps you investigate and understand the nature of the stalking that has been committed, the personal characteristics of those who perpetrated the stalking, and the vulnerabilities of victims. This training will be led by one of the developers of the SAM. Its goals are to enhance your understanding of critical issues concerning the risk of stalking and its assessment and to build your foundational skills in the use of the SAM-V2. You will learn to identify key risk factors, develop a formulation of stalking risk, identify plausible scenarios for stalking, and develop scenario-based management plans. You will practice using those skills while completing a case study.
