The Canadian Association of Threat Assessment Professionals

CATAP holds a number of events open to both members and non-members. We also post events for other organizations or associations that we think are of interest to our members.

   Annual Conference

October 17 - 21

2020 National CATAP Workshop & Conference

A note to our CATAP Members and Friends as the challenges of this ever-evolving global
crisis continue to impact all of us at a very personal level. As threat assessment
professionals, we work tirelessly to keep our communities safe year-round by mitigating risk
through best practices in our respective fields. Thank you for all you do everyday.

The top priority for our CATAP community is health and safety. That is why, in light of
growing concerns surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult
decision to cancel this year’s national workshop and conference. We realize this event is
a highlight of the work year for many, including ourselves, as a time to re-engage and
reconnect with colleagues and friends, but also know that you have entrusted us as your
Board to make these decisions for the wellbeing of our membership.

Furthermore, although October may be well past the worst of current health concerns,
indications are that repercussions for our economy and travel will be long-lasting. The
Board will be required to sign a contract with Fairmont in the near future. As this contract
will commit us to over sixty thousand dollars ($60,000), the Board believes this is too large a
risk for us to take on.

For environmental considerations, we have also chosen to make JTAM accessible only
electronically unless otherwise specifically requested. If you would like to receive hard
copies, please contact Geoff at geoff.frisby@catap.ca

We value your continued support and encourage you to renew your annual membership
for 2020/2021 now. To support continuing learning opportunities and maintain contact
within our community remotely, we will be offering monthly webinars and other
opportunities to support you as best we can to uphold our goal of sharing knowledge and
expertise in these unprecedented circumstances. Please note, if you renew your
membership by April 15th, you will be given a complimentary access code for the next
upcoming webinar (TBA).

As we work together within this new landscape, we will endeavour to keep you informed
and our web site (www.catap.ca) fully updated. For any other questions you may have,
please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

During this difficult time, please take good care of yourself for yourself. Only then can we
take care of each other.

Stay safe and be well,

Darren Balsom, President, on behalf of the CATAP Board of Directors
