The CATAP Confernece Committee is actively working on the 2022 Conference. A "Call for Speakers" has gone out; however, one session has been confirmed:
April 15, 2019 – A tragic day in Penticton, BC. – the John BRITTAIN homicides Presented by the RCMP’s Behavioural Analysis Unit John BRITTAIN was a 67-year-old man with no criminal record, no history of violence, a well respected career as an engineer, who on April 15, 2019 shot and killed four people. S/Sgt. Craig REMPEL of the RCMP’s Behavioural Analysis Unit (“BAU”) will dissect BRITTAIN’s pathway to violence. The BAU read and analyzed 8 years of hand written journals by BRITTAIN which provided an extremely intimate look into his mindset. Using threat assessment constructs such as the Pathway to Violence and Dr. Reid MELOY’s Warning Behaviours, the presentation will show how BRITTAIN’s grievance evolved over a several year period and how the Fixation, Identification, and Last Resort Warning Behaviors played a significant role in understanding his behaviour leading up to the homicides.
